Philosophy
The Society aims to provide in its Home secure and comfortable accommodation for retired or disabled seafarers (with the definition stretched broadly to encompass port workers etc) and their widows and dependants. If room is available, it may also admit at its own discretion retired or disabled persons with no seafaring connections at all.

"THEY'VE DONE THEIR BIT, NOW IT's YOUR CHANCE TO DO YOURS! PLEASE SUPPORT US IN OUR MISSION TO HELP THOSE SEAFARERS EITHER DOWN ON THEIR LUCK, IN NEED OF HELP OR ACCOMMODATION, OR JUST WISHING TO SPEND THE EVENING OF THEIR LIVES IN THE COMPANY OF OTHERS WITH SEAFARING BACKGROUNDS"

Chief Executive: Commander Brian Boxall-Hunt OBE Royal Navy

How you may help
Royal Alfred

Every donation or legacy makes a vital contribution and we are grateful for all the gifts we receive. A suitable donation form is provided on pages 37-38 of this Report together with a banker's order form if you wish to make regular donations. Whatever you decide to do, please send the forms to us making sure to include the full address of the bank so that we can forward the order form to them. We set out below some information on how you can help our work to continue.

By Donation under Gift Aid

These donations have taken the place of gifts made under Deed of Covenant and if you pay sufficient income tax or capital gains tax you can make tax-efficient donations of any amount to charities. If you do make your donation under Gift Aid rules, Royal Alfred can claim 28 pence from the Inland Revenue for every pound you donate. If you pay higher rate tax you can reclaim the higher rate component in your own tax return.

If you can increase the value of your gift, whether one-off or regularly by banker's order, please complete the Gift Aid declaration on the next page and return it with your donation.

By Give as You Earn

If your employer operates Give as You Earn you can take advantage of the facility to the benefit of Royal Alfred.

By Remembering the Society in your Will

Legacies are a certain way of ensuring that your support for Royal Alfred continues after your death. They provide a very important source of income and help to ensure that our work carries on in the future.

If you are kind enough to remember Royal Alfred in your will we suggest that the following wording might be appropriate:
"I give and bequeath to Royal Alfred Seafarers' Society (Registered Charity No 209776) the sum of £…………

OR all the residue of my estate
OR % of the residue of my estate

And I declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other authorised officer for the time being of the Charity shall be sufficient discharge to my executors."

Now and then there comes an impulse,
To the heart of every man, To perform a kindly action, Or assist some noble plan;

But too often - there's the pity! He, procrastinating. cries; "I will do the deed tomorrow;" And alas! the impulse dies.

So, Good Friend, if you are prompted, When perusing this appeal, To assist our earnest efforts (For our needs are very real),

Please address your contribution, As above, without delay; Lest your good intention vanish With the things of yesterday.
